In the 1970s, 80s
and 90s we were obsessively concerned about oxygen toxicity in
patients mechanically ventilated for ARDS. Over time since then
those concerns were gradually forgotten and up until very recently
largely ignored, and for no good reason. Only in the last year or
two has there been a major resurgence of interest. This recent review highlights the consequences of oxygen toxicity in the
lungs and other organs.
