Mechanical ventilation for ARDS

Low tidal volume ventilation, daily spontaneous breathing trials and protocols for liberation from mechanical ventilation were emphasized. Special modalities such as high peep may be useful rescue maneuvers in individual patients but are not considered evidence based for improving survival.
