H pylori testing for patients with ITP?

Why not? It may spare your patient from the hazards of immunosuppressant therapy.

Background: ITP is not always idiopathic.

I second that! I had a terrible case of ITP -- only 1,000 platelets! I took the "usual" steroids/meds and nothing helped. I then tested positive for H-pylori and took the 2 week antibotics. My platelets bounced back right afterwards and I've had normal counts for 7 yrs now. My complete story can be found at...

My husband has been fighting ITP for a year, taking steroids, winrho, etc. I finally asked if he had been tested for H. pylori, which he had not, and he came back positive! He's always had some heartburn issues but nothing bad enough to flag the doctor apparently. His platelets are bouncing around in the last 3 weeks but I'm hoping they continue to climb (and stay). If nothing else, at least the h pylori is gone and he has no heartburn.
