The Institute of Medicine provides ammo for the opponents of tort reform

I've been citing evidence for some time that the IOM report on patient safety did little more than create a culture of blame which will propel us into the next malpractice crisis. Here's another example.

The 98,000 # is repeated so often that it has become assumed to be true, even though it has been discredited. Moreover, it usually appears in a headline such as, "Physicians Kill 98,000 Patients a Year", as if we are roving bands of murderers. I hope that the public will consider the source of this information and the deluge of advertisments that will be forthcoming. Tort reform measures may not be ideal, but almost any system would be better than what we have now. www.MDWhistleblower.blogspot.com
